Velvet Chaos Care Guide
💖 Welcome to Velvet Chaos
A tiny world where colorful Ramshorn snails are raised with care, a little personality, and just the right amount of chaos.

🐌 Just Arrived?
Your new Chaos Beans may be sleepy, tucked into their shells, or not moving much after shipping. This is completely normal! Traveling can be stressful, and most Ramshorn snails simply need a little time to rest and adjust.
Give them 24–48 hours to settle into their new home before worrying. In many cases, they’ll start exploring once they feel safe.
💧 Acclimation Guide
A slow drip acclimation helps your snails adjust to changes in water chemistry without unnecessary stress.
Place the snails and their shipping water into a clean container. Using the included tubing, slowly drip water from your aquarium into the container at about 1–2 drops per second for 15–20 minutes.
When finished, gently transfer the snails into your aquarium by hand, spoon, or net.
Do not pour the shipping water into your tank.
🥬 Feeding Your Chaos Beans
Ramshorn snails are natural scavengers and enjoy a varied diet.
Offer food after they’ve had time to settle, either later that day or the following day. Great choices include blanched zucchini, spinach, cucumber, algae wafers, and quality snail foods.
Only feed what they can eat within a day or two, and remove leftovers if needed to help keep your water clean.
🦴 Shell Health & Calcium
Healthy shells begin with healthy water and plenty of calcium.
My breeding tanks always have access to calcium sources, and continuing that at home will help your snails maintain strong, beautiful shells.
Good calcium sources include cuttlebone, crushed coral, Wonder Shell, and calcium-rich foods.
🌡️ Water & Tank Parameters
Ramshorn snails are hardy and adaptable, but stable water conditions are the key to long-term success.
Recommended conditions:
- Temperature: 72–80°F
- pH: 6.5–8.0
- Stable, cycled aquarium
- Gentle filtration
- Regular water changes
Live plants are always appreciated and provide extra surfaces for grazing.
🌿 Plants & Tankmates
Ramshorn snails do well in peaceful community aquariums and thrive in planted tanks.
Compatible tankmates include freshwater shrimp, peaceful community fish, and other non-aggressive aquatic species.
Avoid keeping them with snail-eating animals such as assassin snails, puffers, or many loaches, unless your Ramshorns are being kept specifically as feeder snails.
🥚 Eggs & Babies
Healthy Ramshorn snails reproduce readily.
Egg clutches are laid on glass, decorations, plants, and other hard surfaces. If you don’t wish to grow your colony, simply remove the egg clutches before they hatch.
A healthy aquarium can support a thriving snail population, but regular feeding and maintenance help keep numbers balanced.
❓ Frequently Asked Questions
My snail isn’t moving. Is it dead?
Not necessarily! Newly shipped snails often rest for a day or two. Give them time before assuming the worst.
My snail is floating. Is that normal?
Yes! Ramshorn snails sometimes trap tiny air bubbles or float while exploring. It’s usually nothing to worry about.
My snail climbed out of the water.
This can happen occasionally, but frequent escape attempts may indicate that your water quality should be checked.
